YANGWANG U9 Xtreme Sets World Record as Fastest Production Car at 308.4 mph

SME News UK. Germany – – The YANGWANG U9 Xtreme (U9X), a groundbreaking hypercar from BYD’s luxury sub-brand YANGWANG, has officially become the world’s fastest production car, reaching a top speed of 308.4 mph (496.22 km/h) at the ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg track in Germany.

This historic achievement surpasses the previous record of 304.48 mph (490.484 km/h) set by a petrol-powered supercar, making the U9X not only the fastest electric vehicle but also the fastest car on the planet.

Engineering Breakthroughs in the U9 Xtreme

Originally developed as the U9 Track/Special Edition, the hypercar has now entered production as the U9 Xtreme, incorporating revolutionary technologies, including:

  • 1200V ultra-high-voltage electrics (up from 800V)
  • BYD’s Blade Battery with a 30C discharge rate
  • Four ultra-high-speed motors producing over 3000PS at up to 30,000 rpm
  • Advanced DiSus-X suspension system with track-specific tuning
  • Semi-slick racing tyres designed for maximum grip

Together, these advancements deliver unmatched acceleration, stability, and efficiency, redefining what is possible for electric performance vehicles.

Leadership and Driver Reactions

BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li celebrated the record, stating:

“YANGWANG is a brand that refuses to accept limits. The U9 Xtreme proves that the future of hypercars is not just fast, but sustainable. I am deeply grateful to our R&D team and to driver Marc Basseng for making this vision a reality.”

German endurance racing expert Marc Basseng, who piloted the record-breaking run, added:

“The U9 Xtreme delivers performance that combustion engines simply cannot achieve. Its quiet power, smooth acceleration, and stability allowed me to focus fully on pushing the limits.”

Limited Production Run

YANGWANG has confirmed that only 30 units of the U9 Xtreme will be produced, making it one of the rarest and most exclusive hypercars in the world. The name “Xtreme” reflects the brand’s philosophy of exploration and innovation, symbolized by the “X” for the unknown.

Redefining the Future of Hypercars

With this record, YANGWANG not only secures its place in automotive history but also demonstrates that the world’s fastest car can be electric. Backed by BYD’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, the U9 Xtreme sets new benchmarks in performance, safety, and environmental responsibility.
