“Wimbledon Might Ban Me!” – Iga Swiatek Reveals Unusual Twist on Strawberries and Cream Tradition

SME News UK. London, July 6 – After a dominant 6-2, 6-3 win over Danielle Collins at Wimbledon, World No. 4 Iga Swiatek stole the spotlight not just with her tennis – but with her culinary confession. In a lighthearted post-match interview, Swiatek revealed an unusual twist on the tournament’s iconic strawberries and cream tradition, joking, “Wimbledon is probably going to ban me” after she shared her unconventional favourite: pasta with strawberries and yogurt.“I have my favourite actually,” Swiatek said on court. “I ate it as a kid. It’s pasta with strawberries. You should try it, guys. Pasta with strawberries and a little bit of yogurt. It is just great.”While the traditional strawberries and cream dish has been a Wimbledon staple for over a century, Swiatek’s twist had fans and reporters equally intrigued—and slightly bewildered.Pressed for more details in her press conference, the Polish star laughed off the surprise: “Why is it such a big thing? Everybody should eat it. It’s just a perfect mix of tastes. We have great strawberries in Poland, as well.”Asked to weigh in on whether Poland or the UK boasts better strawberries, Swiatek grinned: “Honestly, I think Poland. Because we have a better climate for strawberries, right? Now Wimbledon is probably going to ban me from answering these questions.”She quickly added with a smile, “No, the strawberries here are great, as well. They are different. But they are great.”Swiatek also shared how her family enjoys the dish: “My dad adds cream—in Poland, it’s like 18% fat cream—and some sugar. I try to eat it with yogurt to at least pretend that it’s a good meal. I mean, pasta fits everything. But strawberries are the best one, I would say.”Now into the fourth round, Swiatek will face Denmark’s Clara Tauson as she continues her campaign for a first Wimbledon title. But win or lose, her pasta-strawberry fusion may just become the most talked-about dish of this year’s Championships.
