Riyadh Celebrates the Rhythms of the “Tar” in a Landmark Music Festival

Riyadh set the stage for an unforgettable cultural evening as the inaugural “Tar Festival” opened at the Abu Bakr Salem Theatre in Boulevard Riyadh City. Running from 20–23 August, the event is organized by the Saudi Music Commissionand coincides with the Esports World Cup 2025.

Far beyond a concert series, the festival delivers a full cultural journey, spotlighting the Tar drum—a traditional percussion instrument deeply rooted in Saudi heritage. The opening night drew a vibrant audience, who were captivated by live performances blending modern creativity with the timeless rhythms of the Kingdom’s musical identity.

A highlight of the event is the Musical Instruments Market, designed in homage to the historic Souq Al-Hilla. Visitors can explore, purchase, and experience a wide variety of instruments, while also witnessing craftsmen building the Tar and other instruments by hand, offering an authentic glimpse into the artistry behind Saudi music.

The “Tar Festival” marks a milestone for Saudi Arabia’s cultural scene, reflecting the nation’s growing investment in music, heritage, and creativity. It also positions Riyadh as a dynamic global hub where tradition and modernity harmoniously meet.
